Strauss. Taillefer. Divertimento after Couperin.Cebotari,Hotter

URANIA UR 7042 mono;  Maria Cebotari, Hans Hotter, Walter Ludwig,  Lamy Choir, Berlin Radio SO/ Artur Rother.  An elderly recording ( mid 1940's?)of an interesting rarity by Richard Strauss.  This was, I think, the only LP recording of the work, and boasts some starry names. The  "ballade" written as late as 1903, is scored for three soloists, mixed chorus, and a huge orchestra, and is its theme is the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Odd that its never been taken up here in Britain. Imagine an open air performance at Battle Abbey! The Divertimento (1940/41) reflects Strauss late interest in chamber- scaled works, and is charming. LP and SL vg+.
